On Saturday, October 19 from 12-5pm on the Peace Quad, join Indigenous basketmakers Holly John and Penelope Minner in creating a community-woven basket. Community members will be asked to bring in meaningful strips of materials such as fabric, string, ribbon, and other flexible materials to work in tandem with traditional black-ash splints to weave a collaborative basket. The resulting work celebrates the knowledge sharing taking place at the Haudenosaunee Festival and in the exhibition, Homelands: Contemporary Haudenosaunee Art Across New York. This basket brings together the work of Indigenous artists and members of Greater Binghamton. It will be proudly displayed at the Binghamton University Art Museum and raffled off after the end of the exhibition. 100% of the proceeds benefit Native American and Indigenous student initiatives at Binghamton University.Â
